Weidlich was born July 18, 1920, and according to the 1940 Federal Census he was living with his grandparents at 14 Second Street Hackensack, New Jersey. Roy H. Weidlich enlisted into the service on January 3, 1942 that is only a few weeks after Pearl Harbor. Roy H. Weidlich served in the Army Air Corp and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant with the 8th Air Force, 735th Bomber Squadron, 453rd Bomber Group, which happened to be the same, 453rd Bomber Group, that actor Jimmy Stewart served in with the 8th Air Force. The Aircraft Roy H. Weidlich was flying in as a Tail Gunner when he was Killed in Action on May 9, 1944, was a B-24 Liberator. I do not know where from or when Roy H. Weidlich was repatriated to George Washington Memorial Cemetery in Paramus, New Jersey. Roy H. Weidlich also received the Purple Heart for his sacrifice.
